As part of the research conducted within the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia project POT4food, a Strategic Guide was developed to improve the understanding of the competitiveness of Serbia’s agri-food sector and offer practical guidance to policymakers.
This publication brings together analytical research, institutional insights, and evidence-based recommendations derived from the project’s research, intending to support the modernisation of the sector and its readiness for European integration processes.
The Guide is structured into three interconnected chapters:
• The first chapter examines Serbia’s agricultural policy in the context of European integration and other international integration frameworks.
• The second chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of competitiveness, focusing on the structure of agricultural production, productivity, the state of the food industry, foreign trade performance, and key sectoral challenges.
• The third chapter presents policy recommendations aimed at strengthening institutional capacities, improving productivity, modernising production, and supporting Serbia’s sustainable positioning within the European and global agri-food systems.
The Guide is designed as a practical resource that offers an overview of the current situation, clearly identifies key challenges, and outlines directions for sectoral improvement.
We hope that these recommendations will contribute to strengthening the resilience of Serbia’s agri-food sector and support its long-term competitiveness.
